High Country Safe Streets Pledge

The BAC has created this pledge to build mutual respect in the community for all users of the roadways, walkways, and trails.  Please take a few minutes to review the pledge and the linked North Carolina publications.  Then...take the pledge!

I pledge to make walkways, streets, and roadways safe for all users in the High Country.  I acknowledge that a community which embraces all modes of transportation is a friendlier, safer, and healthier community.

As a user of High Country walkways, streets, and roadways, I pledge:
  • To live out our "Golden Rule" - pedestrians first, bicyclists second, motorists third;
  • To travel through my community with patience and forbearance, always looking out for the other person.
As a pedestrian in the High Country, I pledge:
  • To follow the rules of the streets, green-ways, and sidewalks as posted;
  • To be responsible, predictable, and visible;
  • To share the walkways and be patient and respectful as I cross streets and mutual lanes and paths;
  • To respect the rights of all road, street, and path users, including motorists and bicyclists in an effort to promote safety and generate goodwill.
As a bicyclist in the High Country, I pledge:
  • To follow the rules of the road established for bicycles under the North Carolina Vehicle Code;
  • To wear a bike helmet for every ride, even short trips;
  • To be responsible, predictable, and visible;
  • To respect the rights of all road users, including motorists and pedestrians, in an effort to promote safety and generate goodwill.
As a motorist in the High Country, I pledge:
  • To follow the rules of the road established under the North Carolina Driver’s Handbook;
  • To share the road and be patient and respectful as I pass a bicyclists, giving them at least 3 feet;
  • To respect the rights of all road users, including bicyclists and pedestrians, in an effort to promote safety and generate goodwill.

Take the Safe Streets Pledge
